A resident from Piliyandala has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on charges of creating and posting a fake news post on social media.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the post has led to misconceptions among ethnic and religious groups.
He said the CID teams probing into the fake post traced and arrested the resident of Piliyandala last evening.
“Today, he was produced in the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court and was remanded till February 2. The suspect was produced in the court under the section 120 of the Penal Code and under the relevant provisions of the Computer Crime Act,” he said.
