A 29-year-old suspect has been arrested by the CID in Weppakulam, Vavuniya yesterday on charges of money laundering.
The arrest was done after an amount of Rs. 17.2 million was deposited in his account in a private bank in Sri Lanka. "Initially, the complaint on this suspect was received in April 2020, when Rs. 140 million was deposited into various accounts. So far, 36 of those who were involved in money laundering have been arrested," Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. Further investigations to arrest the others who are engaged in this offence are underway by the CID and the Financial Investigation Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.Suspect arrested from Vavuniya over money laundering; 36 arrested since April 2020
