A 35 year old suspect has been arrested in Panadura today in possession of 1,600 packets of heroin, which amount to 40 grams, stated the Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana.
"The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Panadura Magistrate and the police are hoping to obtain a detention order against the suspect for a period of seven days in terms of provisions of Dangerous Drugs Ordinals. He will also be detained in the police station for seven days," Rohana said.
Further, the Spokesman said that a special operation was launched yesterday and over 3,000 suspects have been arrested for offences of absconding police, drunk drivers, drug traffickers and excise ordinals.
Rohana said that although the majority of the police force has been deployed for COVID-19 duties, the police is still continuing their traditional duties such as narcotic operations and apprehending suspects for theft and other offences.
