A 45 year old man who was arrested yesterday on alcohol related charges was found dead inside the Akmeemana Police cell.
While speaking to The Morning, Akmeemana police Officer in Charge I Maduranga confirmed the same.
"The suspect was arrested last evening. He was alive last night, and fell asleep. We found him dead inside the cell this morning. He was taken immediately to the hospital, where they confirmed that he was dead," said OIC I Maduranga.
He added that a post mortem will be done at the Karapitiya Base hospital and that an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
