Suspect who claimed to be Wijeyadasa's friend arrested

A suspect who claimed to be a friend of Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, was arrested for fraud. 

The suspect was arrested by the Special Investigation Unit of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) in Uhana on Monday (13) for allegedly working in the Prime Minister's Secretariat and claiming to be a close associate of a government minister.

The arrested suspect is a resident of Walagambapura area in Werankattagoda, Ampara and was produced before the Court today.

It has been revealed that the suspect has defrauded over Rs. 1.1 million by allegedly sending out persons for foreign employment without valid licenses.

The suspect had planned to leave the country, promising hotel jobs in Germany and demanding Rs. 2 million for said services, the Foreign Employment Bureau stated.

The suspect has claimed Rs. 1.1 million from two persons who were seeking employment.

He also obtained money from other persons, stating that he is a friend of Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and his brother-in-law, the Foreign Employment Bureau said.

The Special Investigations Unit of the Foreign Employment Bureau requested the court to submit a B report with the intention of banning the suspect’s passport and submitting bank statements.
