Swiss Embassy staffer indicted over ‘abduction’

10 Mar 2021

By Our Court Reporter     The Colombo High Court yesterday (9) served indictments on Swiss Embassy Staffer Garnier Banister Francis, on charges of making false statements to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) by claiming that she was abducted by a group of unidentified men. The indictments filed by Attorney General (AG) Dappula De Livera PC were handed over to the accused – presently enlarged on bail – who appeared in the Court yesterday when the case was taken up. The Court ordered to release the accused on the same bail, and the case is set to be heard on 4 June. Francis had alleged that she was abducted on 25 November 2019 by a group of five from the Cinnamon Garden area, who had threatened her with firearms, questioned her regarding an Inspector of Police formerly attached to the CID, Nishantha Silva, the latter who has left the country, and then sexually assaulted her, before releasing her.
