Swiss International Air Lines, the flag carrier of Switzerland, recommenced flight operations to Sri Lanka last Friday (5) onwards.
The flight LX 8064, which was operated by an Airbus 340, arrived in Sri lanka at 7.30 a.m. while welcoming 96 passengers at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). Accordingly, its winter flight schedule was resumed while inaugurating its flight from Zurich to Colombo.
The Swiss international flight was welcomed upon arrival with a momentous water cannon salute at BIA, with the VIP presence of Ambassador of Switzerland to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Dominic Furgler, State Minister of Aviation and Export Zones Development D.V. Chanaka, and officials of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka), Civil Aviation Authority (CAASL), and Sri Lanka Tourism.
The two weekly flights had been scheduled prior to the aviation restrictions due to the prevailing pandemic. However, with the recommencement of flights, a weekly service has been scheduled to Colombo on Fridays with a passenger capacity of 314 seats.
Speaking on the recommencement of the Swiss flights, State Minister Chanaka stated: “With the commencement of Swiss International Air Lines flights, it will boost tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka after the pandemic and strengthen the economic co-operation in the areas of trade, investment, finance, education, and culture between Switzerland and Sri Lanka. We have been continuing our efforts to make sure that our airports are operated in compliance with the international standards of health and safety. Further, we are with plans to upgrade the aviation industry of Sri Lanka, introducing new technology and digitising our airports to provide a seamless passenger experience.”
