09 Dec 2020

Presidential Task Force for Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation’s Chairman Basil Rajapaksa has instructed the relevant officials to take measures to open the new Manning Market at Peliyagoda by next Monday. Speaking at a meeting of the Task Force held yesterday, Mr. Rajapaksa said the closure of the Fish Market and the Manning Market at Peliyagoda has made a direct negative impact on the economy and the livelihood of both farmers and the fishermen. He also instructed to expedite the reopening of the Fish Market in line with guidelines issued by the health authorities to prevent spread of COVID-19. Mr. Rajapaksa also instructed to recruit retired Public Health Inspectors (PHI) in the event the current PHI capacity at Peliyagoda Urban Council was not adequate to observe the implementation of health guidelines at the Fish Market. New facilities are to be added to the Fish Market to ensure its hygiene and the Task Force said the rehabilitation of the market is being done after a decade.
