Tax reliefs for millionaires, deductions for pensioners: Sajith

07 Nov 2021

The Government granted millions of rupees in tax reliefs for millionaires to live luxuries lives, whereas deductions are made from pensioners in the name of the Agraha Insurance scheme, said Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa. He made this statement during a media brief yesterday (06). "Millions of rupees was granted as tax relief when this Government came into power, but they are deducting Rs 600 from pensioners above the age of 70 years and Rs 400 from those below the age of 70 years in the form of an insurance scheme called Agraha. The Government was deprived of revenue, and now pushed the country to the brink of bankruptcy. Now, they are trying to deduct money secretly without informing the pensioners in the name of Agraha," said Premadasa. Premadasa further added that the Government is trying to recover the tax revenue funds that was lost by reducing pensions. "I would like to inform pensioners to be vigilant about this. Stop the move to secretly reduce the funds from the pensioners, otherwise we will take to the streets on behalf of the pensioners," Premadasa said.
