Teachers failing to report to work will have salary suspensions: Northern Province Governor

20 Oct 2021

The salaries of teachers will be suspended if they do not report to work on the 21st of October, said Governor of the Northern Province Raja Kollure. He made this statement during a media brief held yesterday (19). "I will consider suspending the salaries of teachers who do not report to work on the 21st of October. Under the labour law of Sri Lanka, in the instance of a strike, the people who engage in the strike do not get paid. I have informed the relevant authorities to present a report on the attendance of teachers and principals. After obtaining the details of who was present and who was not, we will take action if they have violated their service discipline," said Kollure. He went on to say that action will be taken against the violators and that he will operate in the capacity of the Minister of Education in his province, and further stated that the teachers who do not report to work before the 25th of October, will not be allowed to report any day after either.
