Teachers urged to contribute a day’s salary to COVID-19 fund

Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Dullas Alahapperuma today urged all staff under his ministry including government teachers to consider sacrificing a days’s salary for the COVID–19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund setup by President Gotabaya Rajapksa.

Alahapperuma said if the staff agreed to the request, the Ministry would be able to contribute more than Rs.500,000 to the fund.

Minister Alahapperuma said even he had donated his Cabinet Minister’s salary for the month of April in the fight against COVID-19, and that staff members and teachers must join the noble cause.

The COVID–19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund has received contributions worth more than Rs. 420 million as of this afternoon.
