In a letter addressed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, 10 political parties affiliated to the Government have requested to lockdown the country for a minimum period of three weeks.
The parties believe that imposing such a lockdown will:
- Bring down the number of COVID patients so that they can be accommodated in hospitals
- Reduce the exponential increase of Covid detections
- Eliminate the country’s dysfunctional state as many are in quarantine and many fear the virus.
- Allow for society to have no fear in contributing to the economy once the spread is controlled

- Tiran Alles – Mahajana Eksath Peramuna
- Dr. G. Weerasinghe – Sri Lanka Communist Party
- Asaka Nawaratne – Sri Lanka Mahajana Party
- Gevindu Kumaratunga – Yuthukama National Organization
