Tense situ at Mahara: Death toll increases to four, 25 hospitalised

The Colombo North Teaching Hospital said it received four dead bodies following the tense situation erupted at the Mahara Prison this evening. Hospital Director Dr. Shelton Perera told The Morning that 25 injured personnel were also admitted for treatment. He said one jailor was among the injured and that it was not clear whether all the other injured were inmates. Meanwhile, the Colombo and Gampaha Fire Brigades said they have deployed two fire trucks each to douse a fire that broke out at the prison.
