The administration of the University of Jaffna has temporarily closed the University today(27) and tomorrow(28) following Maaveerar’ day commemorations.
All academic staff at the Jaffna University were asked to vacate the University premises at 2pm today owing to a tense situation that occurred during Maaveerar’ day commemorations.
Students of the Jaffna University commemorated Maaveerar’ day today despite being advised by authorities not to do so.
The authorities had banned students entering the campus from yesterday.
Hundreds of students broke through the locked gates to place wreaths and flowers at a memorial in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the war.
