15 Apr 2020

The Tharapuram village in Mannar was re-opened today after it was declared an isolated area on the 8th of April. The village was placed under lockdown over reports of COVID-19 infections. Meanwhile, isolation regulations imposed in Atalugama in Bandaragama ended yesterday (14). Following the enactment of isolation regulations in the area, 20 persons who closely associated with the infected family were placed under quarantine at a temporary quarantine centre set up at the Sarvodaya Centre in Atalugama itself. The 20 quarantined persons were confirmed as not having contracted Covid-19 and were sent back to their homes on 6 April. Lt. Gen. Silva yesterday (14) announced that the villages of Pannila and China Fort (Cheena Koratuwa) in Beruwala were placed under lockdown and will be treated as isolated areas. “Pannila and China Fort Road areas of Beruwala were declared as isolated areas at 6 a.m. on 14 April. We took the decision to impose a lockdown in these areas after seven people from the area tested positive for Covid-19. In total, 14 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Beruwala,” Lt. Gen. Silva said. This measure had been taken to prevent the spread of the virus to adjacent areas and the Police and the Army have placed roadblocks to prevent anyone from leaving or entering these areas.
