The opposition is a bunch of Pimps: Mahindananda accuses the SJB

06 Sep 2021

During the Parliamentary sessions today (06), Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage accused the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) of being “pimps” who are willing to put down the nation to rise in power. Aluthgamage pulled out the speech by UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who had earlier stated that the UNP had plans for the future of Sri Lanka when they had already “ruined” the country in the past. Comparatively, he questioned what good could possibly come out of the SJB, which is a by-product of the UNP. When interrupted by MP M A Sumanthiran, who was not allowed to speak as it was not a point of order, Aluthgamage went on to repeatedly call the Opposition “pimps” who would “sell” the country at any cost to climb up the political ladder. Sumathiran brought up this point when he was given the opportunity to speak later on, and firstly “educated” the Members on what a Point of order is and on how a legitimate debate is to be conducted in Parliament. During his speech, Sumanthiran brought up the accusation by the people and Parties about the extraordinary emergency gazette on essential food, who many have condemned as a pathway to militarization, stating that it might or might not be the intention of the President, yet the fear of the past 'state of emergency' in 1959, 1983, 2018 has lingered in the minds of the public who do not want to go back to those fearful periods. Sumanthiran concluded that if the country was to move forward, emergency decisions as such can not always be made, instead firm and logical decisions are to be made to help improve the economy from the current state it is in.
