The story behind Kiseki Natural Holistics with T.D. Dewapura

06 Dec 2020

By Mahika Panditha Kiseki (奇跡) is the Japanese noun for miracle. If you do not know of this amazing business, you should definitely check this out. We had the chance to speak to its Founder and Product Developer T.D. Dewapura, who is also a recipe developer at Ceylon Herbivores as well as the Owner of Tarotguide. Kiseki offers products that are manufactured using pure and natural ingredients that have no added chemicals and preservatives. Dewapura’s passions lie in singing and making her own dresses, whilst also investing time in Kiseki. Let’s dive right in. Tell us a little bit about yourself. I’m Tharaka. I'm from Colombo, and I’m a healer. I've studied psychology and hypnotherapy. Then I moved on to energy and sound healing. I paint, make jewellery, and make my own comfortable wear with sustainable materials. I'm a singer, songwriter, and a composer; I use my voice when conducting sound healing sessions. I follow a plant-based diet and mindfully avoid anything that is a product of animal cruelty. I research and read about what's going on in the world on a deeper level away from the surface illusion created by mass media about the health and overall wellbeing of the planet and its inhabitants. I educate people on these subjects and train those who work for "eco-friendly" hotels, and help hotels to switch from harming the environment to running its operations more sustainably. I love being in nature, bathing in natural water, and the mountains and the cold weather; I love stargazing and sun/moon gazing. How did Kiseki come about? Kiseki started with me making wax for myself and healing my skin that was ruined with deep scars from 12 years of acne. While researching, I found out so much about the industry and ingredients in skincare and I realised we've been doing it all wrong. So I started developing products for myself and I shared it with friends and family and got amazing feedback. My best friends and current partners at Kiseki Natural Holistics – Chun Seng Tse and Shahireen Bongzo – who saw the potential I have, invested in Kiseki in 2017. They are my partners in Kiseki, working in the background silently and helping me in every way possible. Without them, it would have taken me longer to even think about launching a brand, so I'm so grateful for my beloved friends. What are Kiseki’s main products and where can we find them? Our main product is Kiseki's 100% natural hair removing wax. We have three types to select from based on your need. But our bestselling product is the deo – it's 100% natural and vegan. We are an online shop; you can find us on Facebook and Instagram and you can shop for Kiseki at The Good Market store, Beverly Street, The Design Collective, JustGoodness, and Sawiyak. What is holistic living? Holistic living is a basic understanding that we are a part of a larger system. We are a part of this planet, and the planet is a part of this solar system; the solar system is a part of this galaxy and the galaxy is a part of the universe; and the universe is a part of the multiverse. As a fraction of this large system, humans are supposed to take care of the planet as the planet provides us with nourishment. Nature is the visible god and I can't stress that enough. It is taking responsibility for your actions to live sustainably with love and compassion towards the planet we live in, the nature that gives us air to breathe, animals, and yourself. Being a conscious consumer, actively putting effort to produce the least amount of non-compostable garbage, working on self-development physically, mentally, and spiritually is holistic living to me. How would you advise people to shift towards a holistic life? The first step would be building awareness by watching documentaries and reading up on what many self-funded projects of research have discovered. Understand the amount of garbage we put out into the land oceans and our own bodies, which will help you open your eyes to things you were oblivious to all this time. The second one is a lifestyle change over medication. It’s easier to pop a pill, but have you ever researched the side effects? Grounding and early sun rays have proven to be one of the best free medicine available to us. When you shop, read labels and research ingredients contained in them. Buy only what's good for you and your planet. Understand yourself and find out where you need healing. Change your lifestyle accordingly. Everything emotional becomes a physical ailment if it is not addressed, understood, and processed without suppression out of the fear of appearing vulnerable. So basically, it's addressing you on a physical and emotional level to heal the spirit. Especially if you have children, you have a greater responsibility to live mindfully making sure you are leaving a better place for your children and everyone after them. I also suggest switching off your electronics emanating high electromagnetic radiation at least while you sleep (Wi-Fi and mobile phones). Drink water that does not contain fluoride as fluoride is a proven neurotoxin and it solidifies your pineal gland disconnecting you from the source. Avoid toothpaste with fluoride. I suggest you don't just take my word for it. Instead, please read up on fluoride. You can also drink gotu kola (Centella acacia) juice (it’s yummy with lime and kithul treacle) and eat a lot of fresh coriander to detox your pineal gland. Once u connect with the source intelligence, you will be guided to do everything else. Drink hot water with lime and pink salt on an empty stomach in the morning for overall health. You can research its benefits too and we have our own concoction of a salt flush that I've just introduced from Kiseki. What are your favourite products from the brand? Well, that's like asking a mother who is your favourite kid. I love them all because they are healing products. I'm so happy that I managed to develop a vegan deo cream and I can say I'm really proud of being able to create both types of my deodorants as it helps you avoid a whole bunch of necessary toxins you would have used. It gives me a sense of accomplishment knowing that many people use fewer toxins on their skin and produce less plastic because of Kiseki. Which product would you recommend people start with when trying out your brand? If you do use toxic deodorants like most people, I highly recommend you start with ditching that and start using one of Kiseki's deodorants – they are unisex products. For ladies, do try our menstrual cup, which is a lifesaver if you still use toxic pads that cause pH imbalance and even cervical cancer. They also do not start breaking down even in 500 years. Yes, every disposable sanitary pad everyone threw away since 1888 is still out there somewhere. For overall health, I recommend the "Salt Gut Detox" as most digestive issues, bloating, gaining weight, acne, constipation, etc. are the result of dirty colons caused by bad food habits, especially eating food made of fibreless glutinous flour and dairy. Cleaning your colons at least once a week can drastically improve your overall health. Salt flush is one of the oldest methods used to clean the digestive system. It also supports adrenal and thyroid health, solving many conditions caused by their poor functioning. Where would you like to see Kiseki in a few years? I wish to make it available to as many people as I can. And we are hoping to encourage people to live more mindfully with self-love – enough to make lifestyle changes for our own wellbeing by giving safer options making the switching process easy for everyone. I'm so grateful for being able to start my mission and I must thank everyone who made it possible, from providing encouragement to believing in me enough to invest in Kiseki. I want to thank all my initial customers for buying my products when they didn't have fancy packaging and everyone who tries my products without prejudice, allowing Kiseki to impress. I thank everyone for supporting a local start-up like Kiseki with so much love and lovely reviews, and thank you.   Photos Charaka Devinda
