- At the Chicago Marathon 2019, Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei, 25, eclipsed the women’s marathon world record (2:14:04) set in 2003 by Britain’s Paula Radcliffe (2:15:25)

- In the All Island Inter-Schools Tennis Tournament held in Kandy, Visakha and Royal won in U-17 while Visakha won in U-20 Girls’. Royal and St. Peter’s were joint champs in U-20 Boys’. Senuri Alexander and Kavisha Ratnayake were adjudged the best players in Girls’ and Boys’, respectively
- Super welterweight boxer Patrick Day died at the age of 27, four days after suffering a brain injury in a 10th-round stoppage defeat by Charles Conwell in Chicago
- SL squad for Australia T20I series was announced. Lasith Malinga, Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Perera, and Kusal Mendis were included while Sadeera Samarawickrama, Minod Bhanuka, Lahiru Madushanka, and Angelo Perera were omitted from the squad that recently beat Pakistan
