  • ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit has established conclusive evidence to say that former Sri Lanka Cricket President, the controversial politician Thilanga Sumathipala, had direct links with the betting industry. Sumathipala, in his response, has said he is victim of a political witch-hunt coming as a result of the ongoing clash between two rival political parties, the UNP and SLFP

  • India beat South Africa by an innings and 202 runs at Ranchi in their third and final cricket Test, in one of South Africa’s worst-ever series where they were comprehensively beaten three-nil

  • Sri Lanka Cricket to honour former captains Arjuna Ranatunga, Aravinda de Silva, and Mahela Jayawardene by naming three stands after them at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Two stands at the Pallekele Satdium are to be named after Kumar Sangakkara and Muttiah Muralitharan

  • Australian Prime Minister’s XI won by one wicket in a close finish in the warm-up T20 cricket match against touring SL at Canberra. Australian PM Scott Morrison met with the SL team before himself doing the job of “water boy” when SL batted during an interval of the match, in a rare gesture of statesmanship, hospitality and friendship

  • The final stage of the 45th National Sports Festival began at the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla. It will conclude today
  • The matches of the inaugural Women’s Emerging Asia Cup in Colombo was rescheduled after back-to-back washouts resulting in four games ending in no decisions. The tournament was pushed back by two days as a result
  • Sri Lanka Cricket announced a two-match Test cricket series between Sri Lanka and England scheduled to be held from 19 to 31 March next year, at Galle and Colombo (R. Premadasa)

  • England beat New Zealand 19-7 in the first semi-final of the Rugby World Cup in Japan
