SUNDAY (6/10/19)
  •  India beat SA by 203 runs in the first of their three-match Test series in Visakhapatnam. Indian opener Rohit Sharma scored centuries, 176 and 127, in both innings to become the first to score two centuries in his first Test as the opening batsman. Indian opener Mayank Agarwal scored 215 in the first innings
  • Out of the five countries that have already gathered points in the ICC World Test Championship, India leads the table with 160 points in three matches. Both NZ and SL are in the second and third spots with 60 points each in two matches. Australia is the fourth with 56 points in five matches. England have also got 56 in five. WI have lost both the Tests they have played so far while SA lost the only game they have played till now
  • At the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Eliminator match in Guyana, Kieron Pollard led the Trinbago Knight Riders to beat St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, led by Carlos Brathwait, by six wickets. At the CPL Qualifier-1 held at the same venue, Guyana Amazon Warriors, led by Shoaib Malik, beat Barbados Tridents, led by Jason Holder, by 30 runs
MONDAY (7/10/19)
  •  SL beat Pakistan by 64 runs in their first T20I in Lahore under lights. SL’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa struck 77, his maiden T20I fifty, winning “the man of the match” award. The win came for SL as the first after a 14-match streak of defeat in limited-over cricket against Pakistan. Pakistan is still ranked No. 1 in world T20I rankings while SL were eighth. But after the Pakistan series, they could climb one place up to be the seventh
  • Umar Akmal equalled a “distressing record” for the most number of ducks (0s) in T20Is (10), a record previously held by Tillakaratne Dilshan. SL’s Muttiah Muralitharan holds the current world record for the highest number of ducks in international cricket with an amazing 59 ducks!
  • SL Women looked as if they were no match for their Aus counterparts as they lost the second ODI too by a massive 110 runs in Brisbane. Earlier, they lost the three-match T20I series 3-0 (the margins were by 41 runs, nine wickets, and 132 runs) in Sydney. Then they lost their first ODI by 157 runs on 5 Oct. in Brisbane
WEDNESDAY (9/10/19)
  • Oshada Fernando became SL’s first batsman to score a 50 on his T20I debut, making 78, as SL whitewashed Pakistan wining the third game in Lahore by 13 runs. SL thus recorder her first-ever T20I series win against Pakistan
  • “Unity is our secret. We don’t have extraordinary players. Everyone equally contributed,” said SL T20I skipper Dasun Shanaka after their series win which some considered a landmark victory
  •  Aus Women sealed the three-match ODI series against SL also 3-0, thrashing them by nine wickets in Brisbane. SL’s lone star was their skipper Chamari Atapattu who scored 113, 16, 30, 13, 14, and 103 in the six matches of the tour
  •  SL “A” bowled out their Bangladeshi counterparts for 116 in the first of their three-match unofficial ODI series at R. Premadasa. The hosts won by seven wickets. On 7 Oct., their two-match unofficial Test series was drawn at 0-0 in Hambantota
  •  Singer SL opening bat Lasith Lakshan became the first centurion of the ongoing third Fair & Lovely Men’s MCA “B” division 50-over League Tournament 2020
  • India Women meanwhile beat SA Women by eight wickets in the first of their three-match ODI series in Vadodara. Earlier, their six-game T20I series were won by India 3-1 with two games being washed off
THUSDAY (10/09/19)
  •  The new-look SL cricket team returned to the country from their historic outing in Pakistan. SLC President Shammi Silva and Chief Selector Ashantha De Mel were all praise for them
  •  Mahanama clinched the Inter-school U-17 Division I cricket final for the Singer Trophy beating St. Sebastian’s, Moratuwa in the finals
  •  Barbados Tridents beat Trinbago by 12 runs in the CPL Qualifier-2 in Trinidad
FRIDAY (11/09/19)
  • Bangladesh “A” equalled the unofficial ODI series against SL “A” at R. Premadasa. They successfully chased 227 runs to win the match by one wicket, that too in the last ball
  •  Ten games in the ongoing SLC Major Emerging Tournament came to a close across various venues
  •  Seven fixtures of the ongoing Singer Inter-school U-19 Div. I two-day cricket tournament 2019/20 were worked off at different venues around the island
  • The Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) began its 15-a-side rugby tournament. It will go on for four weeks. Five of the seven “A” division clubs in the Province are taking part in this inaugural tournament
  • India scored 601/5 declared in the first innings of their second Test against S. Africa in Pune. Captain Virat Kohli struck 254 n.o., his seventh Test double century, scored within a span of 40 Tests. Only five other batsmen have scored more double tons than him, including SL’s Mahela Jayawardene (seven double centuries) and Kumar Sangakkara (eleven). Sir Don leads the list with 12 double hundreds. Koli, by scoring his 200th run, also completed 7,000 Test runs. That was in his 138th innings to become the third-quickest batsman to reach the milestone, after Wally Hammond (131 innings), Virendar Sehwag (134), and Sachin Tendulkar (136)
  • Hosts India clinched their women’s ODI series by 2-0 against SA, beating the latter by five wickets in Vadodara. The last game of the series will be held tomorrow, Monday at the same venue
  • Former Zimbabwe wicket-keeper batsman Tatendra Taibu launched his autobiography named “Keeper of Faith” as his country suffers an international cricket ban
  •  Cristiano Ronaldo moved one strike away from his 700th career goal as Portugal edged closer to Euro 2020 with a 3-0 win against Luxembourg
  •  England must wait now to confirm their place in Euro 2020 after the Czech Republic deservedly ended their 43-game unbeaten run for a decade in the Euro qualifiers in Prague

  •  Almost 400 junior squash players began their quest for national honours at the Air Force Squash Courts Complex, Ratmalana at the 30th Ritzbury Junior National Squash Championship 2019. The event will go on till Wednesday, 16 Oct.
  •  Scottish Rugby said it had a legal case against World Rugby (WR) as the latter sought to ensure their decisive World Cup match with Japan went ahead in Yokohama on Sunday, today, amid concerns over Typhoon Hagibis. The WR was to do an inspection of the stadium on Saturday before confirming whether it can go ahead with the match. WR has already cancelled two Saturday games and declared them a draw – a repeat was to mean Scotland’s exit from the World Cup
