Three females have died while nine persons have sustained injuries following a stampede that took place in Maligawatte.
The Police said a businessman operating in Dehiwala had distributed cash to the needy for the month of Ramadan, in a house located in Jumma Masjid Street, Maligawatte.
The Police said the businessman had not informed the police, the respective Grama Niladhari officer or the PHI on such activity.
Over 300 people had gathered to collect the Ramadan handouts, the Police added.
The injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
The Maligawatte Police have arrested the said businessman and 6 of his assistants over the incident.
