Three Policemen have been interdicted over the assault of a 14- year old autistic boy in Dharga Town, Aluthgama, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratne said today.
Following a public outcry over the incident, a probe was launched by the Kalutara Police Division under the Kalutara Superintendent of Police.
The incident took place on the 25th of May, at around 4.45 pm close to a Police checkpoint located near the Ambagaha junction Petrol Station, Aluthgama. CCTV footage on the incident shared on Twitter and Facebook, shows the boy being dragged across a road in Dharga Town, being subject to assault by a group of policemen and some bystanders, close to the Police checkpoint. Following investigations, the Kalutara Police Division has interdicted a Sub Inspector, a Police Constable and a Police Sergeant. The Police said that the Sub Inspector and Police Sergeant were initially based at the Kalutara Police College and were assigned to the checkpoint temporarily for curfew duty.
