Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) appointed former Australian cricketer, Coach, and commentator Tom Masson Moody to its newly-formed posting of Director of Cricket, effective from 1 March.
The 55-year-old has played eight Tests and 76 ODIs for Australia during 1987-99. Born in the capital city Perth of Western Australia, the six-and-half footer featured in three World Cups (50-over), in 1987, 1992, and 1999 while playing in the 1999 final at Lord's against Pakistan.
After his retirement, Moody served at his English county Worcestershire as its Cricket Director before taking over as Sri Lanka Head Coach in 2005. After helping Sri Lanka reach the 2007 World Cup final in the West Indies in April, he quit the post and joined as Western Australia Coach.

SLC wishes to announce the appointment of Mr. Tom Moody as the Director of Cricket, effective from 01st March 2021. His appointment comes following recommendations made by the Technical Advisory Committee of the SLC (chaired by Aravinda de Silva. its other members are Kumar Sangakkara, Roshan Mahanama, and Muttiah Muralitharan) to revamp Sri Lanka’s cricket operations.
Moody's role will be on consultancy basis, and he will have to fulfill 300 days of Mandatory Assignment during his contracted three-year period.
Among many of his duties include the Analysis of the Future Tours Programme, focusing on the domestic tournament structure, player welfare, education and skill development, coaching, support staff structure and high performance, and data analytics.
"Tom has worked with SLC in the past and has shown results, and I am sure with his working knowledge of the system, Tom will add greater value to our game," said Ashley De Silva, CEO, SLC.
Moody has had many experiences, some of which include Director of Cricket of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Coach, and now the Director of Cricket of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He held the same position with Worcestershire County Cricket Club and was the Head Coach of Western Australia, among other roles in the game.
