Total 128 complaints; Polls Peaceful: Police

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ruwan Gunasekara said the police had received a total of 128 complaints island-wide regarding the presidential polls. He said 169 incidents were reported on elections law violations while 141 Arrests were made by respective police stations island-wide. According to Gunasekara there has been a decrease in complaints and elections law violations in comparison to 2015. "The Pre election period, election day and  post election period has been peaceful," Gunasekara told reporters today. Gunasekara added, "We would like to thank the media for ensuring a peaceful environment by conveying police related information to the public." He said complaints and elections law violations in 2015 were 579, while a total  384 arrests were made in the country.
