18 Jun 2019

Earnings from tourism in April declined 7.5% year-on-year, from $ 339 million in April 2018 to $ 313 million in April 2019, according to the latest Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) data. The last 10 days of April were severely affected by the Easter Sunday attacks, but the full impact of the attack on tourism earnings could be seen only when the CBSL releases the May 2019 data. With the decline in tourist arrivals in April, the growth in earnings from tourism moderated to 2.2 per cent in the first four months of 2019 over the corresponding period of 2018, going from 1,66 billion last year to $ 1.70 billion this year.
