23 Jun 2020

Tourists are only permitted to stay in places of accommodation registered under the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) from 1st August, Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said. He said the decision has been taken following advise by the Health Ministry. "The government will reopen the tourism sector on 1st August by allowing only small groups of visitors to begin with." Ranatunga said currently over 5000 places of accommodation have been registered under the SLDTA. "Over 20,000 hotels and other places of accommodation remain in the informal sector. I have requested the SLDTA to take immediate steps to register these places," Ranatunga added.
