Travel restrictions reimposed today

The relaxed travel restrictions will resume islandwide from 10.00 pm today (23). It will be operational until 4.00 am on the 25th, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said. Again on the 25th at 04.00 am the active travel restrictions will be lifted island wide. However, the Army Commander said that the travel restrictions between the provinces will continue to be in effect. The travel restrictions imposed on May 21 from 11.00 pm onwards were in effect for a month and were lifted on June 21 at 04.00 am. During the period of relaxation of travel restrictions, the Director General of Health Services issued a new set of guidelines on how to call employees of government and semi-government institutions in the Western Province. Accordingly, the guidelines state that employees of all government and semi-government institutions belonging to the essential service category should be called to duty only to the extent necessary to the head of the institution. The guidelines state that private sector institutions in the Western Province should also be maintained under the required minimum staff and should be encouraged to work from home whenever possible.
