Trio nabbed for impersonating doctors

By Dinitha Rathnayake Some people were travelling on roads pretending to be professional employees of essential services, especially as doctors, yesterday (25) and three of these suspects were arrested on the charge of impersonation, according to the Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana. “A special operation was conducted across the country in order to apprehend such persons,” he said. Accordingly, the Narahenpita Police arrested a 39-year-old who was using a car with a doctor’s pass. The car had been taken into custody. The arrestee is from the Wellawatte area. Meanwhile, the Cinnamon Gardens Police also arrested a 46-year-old along with a car for using the doctor’s pass. The arrest had been made in Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7. In addition, another arrest had been made over the same offence in the Colombo Fort area by the Colombo Fort Police. Suspects would be charged under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance and in addition, according to the relevant provisions of the Penal Code for the offence of cheating by impersonation. Further investigations are underway regarding these incidents. All officers in charge of Police stations have meanwhile been advised to detect cases related to impersonation.
