Twelve killed in fatal road accidents in the past 24 hours

Twelve people have been killed in fatal road accidents across the island in the past 24 hours. Police Media Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that 8 of the deaths were due to road accidents yesterday. The spokesman said all eight deaths were caused by motorcycles or cyclists, adding that three pedestrians and a woman traveling in a three-wheeler were also killed. Meanwhile, a 16-year-old schoolboy was killed in an accident in the Akurambada area on the Matale-Galewela road when a motorcyclist veered off the road and lost control. A motorcyclist had collided with a vehicle on the Padaviya road in the Kebithigollewa police division in the upper Usgollewa area. A 53-year-old Civil Defense Force personnel was seriously injured in an accident and died on the spot. Meanwhile, a motorcycle collided head on with a lorry in the Talthahapitiya area on the Kurunegala - Chilaw road in the Bingiriya Police Division. A 59 year old motorcyclist had also died in an accident. Meanwhile, a pedestrian was hit by a motorcycle heading towards Kalaganwantha in the Galwatta area on the Nildandahinna Kalaganwatta road in the Walapane Police Division. A 72-year-old woman who was seriously injured in an accident has died. A tipper truck traveling towards Yagodamulla on the Gampaha Police Left Uggalgoda Road has collided head on with a pedestrian in a hilly area. A 58-year-old man has died in an accident. A motorcyclist traveling towards Ambagaha Junction in the Ahugammana area on the Mukalana Ambagaha Junction Road in the Meegahawatta Police Division has collided with a pedestrian. A 61-year-old pedestrian injured in an accident has died after being hospitalized. Meanwhile, a motorcycle had collided with a cab on the Malimbada-Akuressa road while trying to turn into a by road. A 45 year old cyclist has died in the accident. Meanwhile, a 43-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision between a tipper truck and a motorcycle in the Mahiyanganaya area.
