Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that 12 people were killed in 10 road accidents yesterday (01).
Five pedestrians, four motorcyclists and pillion riders and a lorry passenger were among the fatalities.
Meanwhile, an accident near the Thalduwa weekly fair on the Thalduwa Amithirigala road claimed the life of one woman.
The 20-year-old female victim was hit by a tipper truck and died after being admitted to the Avissawella Hospital.
The victim is a girl from Avissawella and the driver of the truck has been arrested in connection with the accident.
