Fifteen members of parliament and several parliament staffers have been identified as close contacts of MP Rauff Hakeem who was tested positive for COVID-19, parliament said today.
Accordingly, they have been instructed to undergo self-quarantine.
Earlier today, Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando said steps would be taken to conduct rapid antigen tests on the identified contacts of MP Hakeem next week.
Meanwhile, several staffers at the office of the leader of the house have also been identified as contacts after Coordinating Secretary (Political Affairs) to the Prime Minister Kumarasiri Hettige tested positive for COVID-19.
The Serjeant-at-Arms said they have also been informed about the action needed to be taken and added that the development was not an obstacle to parliamentary affairs.
