21 Jan 2021

At least 28 people were killed in a twin suicide attack that targeted a street market in central Baghdad, a security official said on Thursday. Major General Kadhem Bohan, the head of Iraq's civil defence unit, told reporters at the scene that the blasts also injured 73 people, dpa news said. Civil defence teams have helped put out a fire that resulted from the blasts and continue to look for injured people, Bohan added. An army spokesman said that two suicide bombers blew themselves up while they were being pursued by security forces. If confirmed, it could be the most serious attack to hit the Iraqi capital in more than a year.
