05 Feb 2021

Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said that 27 products would be available for the customers through Sathosa, Cooperative stores and Q-Shops for reduced prices from Monday. Speaking at a media briefing held at the Ministry of Trade today, the Minister said the prices of the 27 essential commodities would be maintained for lower prices for three months. He said projects to reduce prices of goods should be usually implemented on the basis of the gradual growth of production. “However, the President, the Prime Minister, the Cabinet, the Ministry of Trade, local manufacturers and importers made commitments to provide maximum relief to the people during the current epidemic,” he said. The Minister said that the government would be grateful if the private sector supermarket chains would also follow suit with the prices agreed upon by the government for these 27 essential consumer goods. He also said that the consumers can contact the 1998 hotline for inquiries and 1977 hotline for complaints regarding irregularities in prices of goods or if there is any issue when purchasing 27 items through Sathosa, Cooperative stores and Q-Shops.
