At least 23 people have been killed in road accidents between February 7 and 13, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said that three persons were killed in three fatal road accidents yesterday (17).
A total of 286 people have been injured in the accidents and the total number of accidents reported is around 413 from February 7 and 13, the police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, a person was killed in a road accident in the Polonnaruwa area yesterday.
The accident occurred on the Polonnaruwa - Ethumalpitiya Road when a motorcycle collided with a car.
The motorcyclist who was seriously injured in the accident has died on admission to the Polonnaruwa Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as a 56-year-old father of three residing in Bediwewa, Samudragama.
The driver of the car has been arrested and the Polonnaruwa Police are conducting further investigations.
