Two arrested for transporting heroin under the guise of essential services

Two persons have been arrested while transporting heroin in a cab under the guise of distributing essential goods while traveling between districts. Police Media Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the suspects were arrested by the Medirigiriya Police yesterday (27). The Police Media Spokesman stated that the Divisional Secretary of Medirigiriya has issued a license to the relevant cab stating that it is bringing essential items to the Colombo Manning Market. Rohana said that such a license had been misused for drug trafficking. The suspects were arrested on their way back to Medirigiriya from Narahenpita yesterday. The DIG said that three grams of heroin were also found in the suspects' possession and that the cab was also taken into police custody. The arrested suspects will be produced before court today (28) and a court order will be obtained to detain and question them. Meanwhile, police have arrested eight persons in the Piliyandala area for gambling in violation of quarantine rules.
