Two murders have been reported at territorial levels during the last 24 hours, stated Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana today.
One person in Thaladapitiya in Polpithigama Police area has been stoned to death by a suspect. The 51-year-old victim has been admitted to hospital where he had succumbed to his injuries.
Another murder had been reported in Wiladukanda in Habaraduwa police area, where a 30-year-old has been killed with a sword and a knife by two suspects.
The Spokesman stated that both police areas were conducting investigations to identify the suspects in these crimes.
Ajith Rohana also stated that the objective of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was peace and tranquility and such persons have abused the concept.
Accordingly, over 1,000 police officers have been deployed to monitor such situations in the territorial level.
