Two suspected cases of coronavirus admitted to IDH

Two suspected cases of coronavirus have been admitted to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) in Angoda.

The two Sri Lankans had reportedly flown -in from Italy and shown symptoms of the virus.

The cases were admitted to the Hospital on Wednesday (26).

Sources told The Sunday Morning that samples were sent yesterday (27) to the Medical Research Institute(MRI) for testing and that results were expected in the coming days.

The Health Ministry on Wednesday announced it was tightening measures taken to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka following an influx of cases in South Korea, the Middle East and Italy.

Italy has in recent days become Europe’s worst-affected country, with more than 300 cases and 11 deaths.

Several European countries have announced their first coronavirus cases, all apparently linked to the growing outbreak in Italy.

World Health Organization this week announced that countries should do more to prepare for a possible coronavirus pandemic.
