Two suspected cases of coronavirus test negative

The two Sri Lankans  who were admitted to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) on suspicion of having contracted the COIVD-19 have been tested negative, sources told The Sunday Morning. The two Sri Lankans had reportedly flown -in from Italy and shown symptoms of the virus. The patients were admitted to the Hospital on Wednesday (26). Tissue samples were sent on Thursday (27) to the Medical Research Institute(MRI) for testing and results have come out negative for the virus. The Health Ministry on Wednesday (26) announced it was tightening measures taken to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka following an influx of cases in South Korea, the Middle East and Italy. Italy has in recent days become Europe’s worst-affected country, with more than 300 cases and 11 deaths.

Several European countries have announced their first coronavirus cases, all apparently linked to the growing outbreak in Italy.

World Health Organization this week announced that countries should do more to prepare for a possible coronavirus pandemic.
