UAE Embassy denies reports of banning the burial of COVID-19 victims

The Embassy of the UAE to Sri Lanka in a press statement today vehemently denied reports of banning the burial of COVID-19 victims and ordering cremation of bodies.

“The UAE has not banned the burial of those who die of coronavirus, nor has our country instructed that the bodies be cremated. We believe that a diseased person’s body be treated with dignity, whatever the cause of death maybe without prejudice or discrimination,” the embassy said.

The Embassy has further clarified news items that have appeared on sinhala news websites and on social media regarding a directive issued by the Ruler of Sharjah and  Supreme Council Member,  His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, on Friday 3 April regarding the burial of victims of COVID-9 in the UAE.
