Minister of Energy Udaya Gammampila is doing exactly what United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe did by signing and giving away the trincomalee oil tanks to India, claimed the President of the Petroleum General Employees Union Dr Ashok Ranwala. He made this statement during a media brief yesterday (06). "Udaya Gammanpila is repeating what Ranil Wickremesinghe did. After acquiring the land, the oil tanks belong to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. They have proposed for 3 institutions to develop these oil tanks, the Indian High Commission, Indian Oil Company and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. The cabinet paper does not just mention about giving away land. Permission has been obtained for them to come here and form a new company to gain control of the oil tanks, and they expect the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to collect from them," said Dr Ranwala. Dr Ranwala further added that the Indian Government is trying to extend the agreement for another 50 years, by making use of the weak rulers and weak economy. "In 2003, the Indian Oil Corporation couldn't gain control of our oil tanks, but in 2022, Udaya Gammanpila is signing and giving them away to India, it is out duty to prevent it from happening," he concluded.
