Udayanga transferred to Prison Hospital

Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga has been transferred to the Prison Hospital due to a sudden illness. Commissioner General of Prisons T.M.J.W. Tennakoon said that Weeratunga had been transferred to the Prison Hospital on the advice of the latter’s doctors. Tennakoon said that Weeratunga has been ailed with ulcers. “His medical reports say that he has ulcers and his doctors advised us to transfer him to the Prison Hospital,” he said. Tennakoon said that he could not elaborate further on Weeratunga’s condition and that his doctors would do so in due course. Weeratunga was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) upon his arrival in Colombo on Friday (14) morning and was remanded till tomorrow (17) by Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake. – Skandha Gunasekara
