The case involving former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga was taken up for hearing this morning and was postponed till afternoon due to the absence of counsel representing the case.
The counsel appearing for the defendant as well as Attorney General’s representatives had not been present in court when the case was taken up.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake has then postponed the case till afternoon.
Weeratunga was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) upon his arrival in Colombo on Friday (14) morning and was remanded till today (17) by Magistrate Dissanayake.
The former Ambassador is being accused of unlawfully interfering in purchasing MiG Fighter Aircraft for the Sri Lankan Air Force from Ukraine.
