The United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) today insisted that it has no plans to divorce from its marriage with the United National Party (UNP).

UPFA General Secretary, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera told The Sunday Morning the Government will continue for its full term which ends in 2020.

Reiterating that there was no move by the UPFA to form a caretaker government with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), the Minister said that some politicians were misleading the public to gain cheap political advantages.

“A new government could only be formed after an election and not by conspiring,” Amaraweera said.

Several JO members expressed their concerns about the speculated caretaker government and former Cabinet Minister Kumara Welgama said he would not support a caretaker government and even if it was formed, he would continue to stay in the opposition.

In contrary to the views expressed by MP Welgama, UPFA MP Dilan Perera stressed that everyone should support the President to form a caretaker government to save the country from the current crisis.

However former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had also denied there was a move to form a caretaker government.

Meanwhile Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala stressed that they would not allow anyone to touch the government until its term ends in 2020.
