The United Nations (UN) Secretary General António Guterres may visit Sri Lanka soon, UN officials stated.
UN representatives mentioned this to the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) this week after the TNA met a group of diplomats in Colombo last week and briefed them on the situation in the country. TNA MP E. Saravanabavan said that among the diplomats were representatives from the UN office in Colombo.
He said the UN representatives had assured them that Sri Lanka was among the focus countries of the UN at the movement. "They also said that the UN Secretary General may visit Sri Lanka soon," Saravanabavan said.
In all, diplomats from 15 countries attended the meeting with the TNA led by R. Sampanthan.
Among the countries represented were India, the EU, Japan, and the UK.
