Uncapped Imrul Kayes gets a call for Bangladesh's preliminary ODI squad against SL

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) included uncapped Shohidul Islam in the 23-member preliminary squad for the upcoming three match ODI series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to start on 23 May. The BCB selectors have also made the surprising move of recalling left-handed opener Imrul Kayes.
Bangladesh preliminary squad for SL:
Tamim Iqbal, Naim Sheikh, Imrul Kayes, Litton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammed Mithun, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mehidy Hassan, Taijul Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, and Shohidul Islam.

“'We want to have a look at Imrul considering he is scoring runs at domestic level and see where he stands,”' BCB Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin has told media.

Members of the Bangladeshi ODI squad, who are not part of the Test squad that is currently involved in a two-match series against Sri Lanka in Kandy, were to start their preparation at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) from yesterday (2).

Bangladesh players are expected to arrive from Sri Lanka and join the preliminary squad members on 7 May. The cricketers ware to then go for a one-week Eid vacation from 10 May.

It is learnt that Sri Lanka are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on 16 May. After a three-day hotel quarantine, they will start preparation from 20 May.

Bangladesh squad members will play an intra-squad practice game on 20 May at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan while Sri Lanka will play a practice match on the following day at the same venue.

The three ODIs are scheduled at SBNS on May 21, 23 and 28.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman, who are currently in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will have to return from the tournament as they are included in the preliminary squad. Shakib is granted No Objection Certificate (NOC) till 18 May.
