The United National Party (UNP) today condemned the recent statements made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in response to SJB MP Harin Fernando's comments.
In a statement, the newly elected UNP Secretary Palitha Range Bandara said the statement has caused concerns among the people of Sri Lanka including those who voted for the President.
“This statement is in violation of the oath taken by the President to uphold the Constitution upon assuming duties. Threatening a member of parliament amounts to a breach of the powers and privileges of parliament. Since this was a comment that was made in parliament and as such could have been responded to by the members of parliament,” he said.
