United National Party(UNP) led alliance 'Samagi Jana Balawegaya' , will contest the upcoming general election under the ‘Swan’ symbol, according to UNP National Organiser MP Naveen Dissanayake.
The decision was taken when the 10 member committee appointed to discuss the alliance and symbol convened at the Sirikotha - UNP Headquarters today (18).
Members of the Committee have reached consensus over using the swan symbol to contest the upcoming polls.
The final decision on the symbol will be reached at tomorrow's (19) Working Committee(WC) meeting.
Premadasa had initially proposed that the heart symbol be used for the alliance.
However, a majority of the WC had opposed the proposal and recommended that Premadasa use the elephant symbol instead.
