Minister of Small and Medium Business and Enterprise Development, Wimal Weerawansa today claimed that the United National Party(UNP) was planning to hold the parliamentary elections before the 21 of April.
He said this was because 21 April 2020 would mark one year since the horrific Easter Sunday bombings.
"From unofficial sources we have been informed that the UNP wants to voluntarily give its support to dissolve Parliament before March. " "If the elections are to be held following 21st April 2020, it would negatively impact the UNP's election campaign,"Weerawansa added. However, Weerawansa said the government was prepared for any date. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa can constitutionally dissolve parliament in March 2020
