19 May 2019

By Skandha Gunasekara The United National Party (UNP) is yet to decide on their stance regarding the No-confidence Motion (NCM) against the Minister of Industries Rishad Bathiudeen. Leader of the House and UNP Minister Lakshman Kiriella told The Sunday Morning that the UNP parliamentary group would meet this week and decide on their position pertaining to the NCM. “We have not taken a decision yet. Our parliamentary group meeting will be held with the Prime Minister chairing it and there we will decide on what stance to take,” Minister Kiriella said. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) said that it had also not yet decided on the NCM. “We haven’t decided yet. We will meet soon and decide,” SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara told The Sunday Morning. Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Sunil Handunetti too said that his party was also yet to decide on the NCM against Minister Bathiudeen. Meanwhile, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) was awaiting the NCM to be put on the agenda of Parliament. “We will take a decision once the NCM has been put on the agenda of Parliament. There is no point announcing our position before it has been put on the agenda of the House,” TNA MP Mavai Senathirajah said. The "Joint Opposition" last week presented a NCM signed by 64 MPs to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
