UNP's 1st anniversary in 28 years with Party Leader as Prez

  The United National Party’s (UNP) 76th anniversary was held yesterday (6) at Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the first time in 28 years that the UNP celebrated its anniversary with its leader as the President of Sri Lanka. “Let's Build Together” was the theme of this year’s UNP anniversary, and was the first UNP anniversary following Ranil Wickremesinghe’s assumption of the Presidency. All party leaders representing Parliament, as well as other well-wishers, were invited to join the UNP anniversary celebrations and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena attended the event. Several ministers, party leaders, and MPs, including Douglas Devananda, Tiran Alles, Sagara Kariyawasam, Rauff Hakeem, Rishad Bathiudeen, Ali Sabri Rahim, Arvinda Kumar, A.L.M. Ataullah, and several others representing other parties joined the celebrations at the Sugathadasa Stadium. Minister of Lands and Tourism Harin Fernando and Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara were also present at the anniversary celebrations. The ceremony commenced with President and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe placing a garland on the statues of the party’s founder D.S. Senanayake and other former leaders. John Amaratunga, Ravi Karunanayake, Navin Dissanayake, Daya Gamage, D.M. Swaminathan, and Colombo Mayor Rosy Senananayake attended this event.
